Gonna change this to NOT be a propaganda piece for Newcastle United. "We'll meet again" is going for a start, irrelevant.

Look, we appreciate you support NUFC and as such are going to be bias in your reporting, but FFS this is an encyclopedia not a forum for your opinions. The Sunderland groundsman reactions, chants after derbies etc etc are utterly irrelevant.

You are not doing much to dispel the widely held opinion that Newcastle fans are uneducated, egotistical and absolutely unable to look at anything impartially.

4-1 a notable victory?

Is the most recent game (the 4-1 in 2006) really a 'notable derby'? Out of all the derbys, it was hardly amazing or particularly memorable, out of all of the derby games that have been played.

Sure, Newcastle scored 4, but against statistically the worst side ever in the premiership. So 4 is nothing special.

It was more memorable than half of the ones already listed in the article. And if we're going by your defintion of "memorable" or "notable" I'd certainly say it is greater than Newcastle 1-2 Sunderland (November, 2000) and Newcastle 3-2 Sunderland from the same season. Why are you picking out this one in particular?

also right it was Shearers last ever proffessional game of football, being the match where an England legend went out i believe it makes this quite notable, also the 2-1 loss to the mackems was also quite notable as it was Gullits last match in charge and it shows the very plight we were in when he was here, Crabman out Crabman123 15:52, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I find the whole section of the article completely irrelevant. I mean even as a Newcastle fan, I know that the play off game and the 9-1 defeat are important landmarks, but to judge what the best matches are is rather subjective. Personally, I don't think that either the 3-1 victory to Newcastle in 1985, nor the 2008 2-1 win to Sunderland are all that notable. Crossing the divide

Can anyone find details on players playing for both Newcastle United and Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby as a section like on the North London derby section. Kingjamie 13:25, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Very glaring omission from the players who have played for both Newcastle United and Sunderland was Bobby Moncur - a huge part of Newcastle United's last trophy success (the old Fairs Cup) who went on to play for Sunderland after he left Newcastle. 296 appearances for Newcastle and 86 for Sunderland —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.210.176.14 (talk) 16:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Tyne Wear record

There is a link at the end of the article which takes you to a comprehensive head to head record of NUFC v SAFC. 53 wins apiece.

However it shows that SAFC’s 53 wins includes two in non-major competitions (essentially friendlies).

The first on 3rd August 74 is a 2-1 SAFC win in the Texaco Cup. The second on 6 August 1975 is a 2-0 win in the Anglo-Scottish Cup.

In major competitions NUFC have won 53 and SAFC 51.

If contributors insist on editing to show 53 wins apiece then they should make clear the breakdown of competitions for those wins.

By replacing the Texaco Cup and Anglo Scottish Cup ties from the results breakdown and replacing them with League wins, it’s essentially falsifying the figures. No surprise at SAFC fans trying to change history!! Wassel Newman (talk) 20:22, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

User Wassel Newman is persistently changing sourced information which therefore makes the information incorrect. The very three sources that Anonymous SAFC supporter references make clear that two of SAFC’s wins were not in major trophies.

Check them. Wins in the Texaco Trophy and Anglo-Scottish Cup in August 1974 and 1975.

Anonymous SAFC fan can try to delete the facts on Wikipedia but the facts remain.

They were once recognized competitions and the sources also say that, the sources also specify not recognized competitions head-to-head records and they don't fall within that category.
